Mr. Joseph R. Schortz ’71 – Punta Gorda, FL
After earning his BA in Accounting from Pfeiffer University, Joseph “Joe” Schortz attended Monmouth University where he took a variety of undergraduate and graduate courses. He became a Certified Public Accountant (CPA) in New Jersey in 1975 and has retained his certification. He is also a CPA in Florida, is a Chartered Global Management Accountant (CGMA), and is a Trust and Estate Practitioner (TEP).
Joe has had a long and successful career, having held leadership positions at several accounting firms. He served as a shareholder and Vice President of Kelson, Merves, Schortz & Company, manager of Loricco, Crosland, Joiner, and Company, and Vice President of Crosland, Joiner, Schortz, & Company. He was also the President, CEO, CFO, and Shareholder for Quality Botanical Ingredients. He currently lends his expertise to Parlade, Schaefer, Schortz, CPAs.
Joe is a member of the American Institute of Certified Public Accounts (AICPA), the New Jersey Society of Certified Public Accountants (NJSCPA), the Florida Institute of Certified Public Accountants (FICPA), and the Society of Trust and Estate Practitioners. He is also a member of the regional advisory council for SunTrust Bank in Southwest Florida, is a board member for Florida Gulf Coast University Foundation, and is a community impact panelist for United Way of Charlotte County in Florida. Pfeiffer is grateful that Joe brings his accounting skills to bear upon his work on the Budget and Finance Committee of the Board of Trustees.
